Mission Statement
To be a Church fellowship effectively witnessing to the Gospel in the 21st Century
We want to achieve this by:
Gospel Truth: Advancing Evangelical Christianity.
Gospel Fellowship: Promoting fellowship and encouraging prayer, co-operation and mutual support for the people as they witness to the gospel.
Gospel Independence: Bearing witness to the Scriptural principles of the autonomy of the local church and the freedom of believers in Christ.
The teachings of the New Testament, believes that each local church is completely autonomous, under the headship of Jesus Christ, and has within itself all that it needs for the health and well being of the church. Congregationalism thus has no denominational hierarchy above the local church.
Churches Together in Leigh
Marty Haugen’s hymn
Let us build a house where all can dwell
and all can safely live,
a place where saints and children tell
how hearts learn to forgive.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
rock of faith and vault of grace:
hear the love of Christ shall end divisions:
All are welcome,
all are welcome,
all are welcome in this place.
The Influence of One Life
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. he grew up in an obscure village. He worked in a carpenter shop until he was thirty, and then for three years he was an itinerant preacher. He never wrote a book. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put his foot inside a big city. He never travelled two hundred miles from the place he was born.
He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself. He had nothing to do with the world except the naked power of His divine Manhood.
While still a young man the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through a mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth while He was dying and that was his coat. When He was dead He was taken down and laid in a borrowed tomb through the pity of a friend.
Twenty or so wide centuries have come and gone and today He is the centre piece of the human race and the leader of the column of progress. I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, and all the Navies that were ever built, and all the Parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned put together have not affected the life of man upon this earth as that one solitary life The Person of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His death upon the Cross.
Today, God’s offers of mercy are extended to every member of Adam’s race – white, black, brown, yellow. He is ‘no respecter of persons’ and is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
” For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on Him Should not perish, but have everlasting life.” ‘Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.’
